The event was supported by the Joining and Welding Research Institute, Osaka University and provided professionals with a forum to share and develop scientific and technical knowledge related to friction stir welding (FSW). The three-day event welcomed 130 attendees, representing around 70 companies and universities from 17 different countries.


A full programme of informative sessions covered topics related to techniques, fundamentals, FSW tools, materials, modelling, additive manufacturing, dissimilar materials joining, applications, performance, friction stir spot welding, and high temperature applications. In addition, there were a series of plenary sessions and poster presentations.

1.) Mastering the intricate art of welding extra-thick materials, such as 100mm of Al-6061 aluminum and 35mm of copper-T2, demonstrating unparalleled proficiency in handling demanding applications.


2.) Achieving a remarkable feat of welding a high-speed rail train body spanning an extraordinary length of 60 meters, underscoring our expertise in large-scale, precision welding.


3.) Successfully executing the welding of a colossal tank vessel with dimensions of ɸ 5000mm x 7500mm, all without the need for a keyhole process in circular welding, a testament to our innovative approach and technical prowess.


4.)Pioneering double-head welding technology for aluminum sheets and profiles, extending to impressive dimensions of up to 18.5m x 5m, further expanding the boundaries of what is possible in the field of FSW.
